Cycling routes through the most beautiful villages on the island
Although Mallorca is still known throughout the world mainly for its beaches with crystal clear waters, more and more cyclists visit the island, attracted by its nature, its roads and the infinite number of dream routes that can be covered by bicycle.
We do not know if it is because of the weather, the mountains and plains or the variety of landscapes, but Mallorca is one of the most popular destinations for cyclists.
We at Monport, faithful advocates of cycling as a lifestyle, would like to suggest three cycling routes through some of the most beautiful villages on the island.
The coastal road in the Tramuntana mountains
A 110 km long road along the west coast of Majorca connects Pollença in the north with Andratx in the west of the island.
The route has a positive altitude gain of 2,520 metres and passes through the Coll de Femenia, Puig Major (the highest point on the island), Can Costa, Camp des Bosquet, es Grau and Coll de Sa Gramola to Andratx.
It passes through some of the most spectacular mountain villages in Mallorca: Sóller and its Orange Valley, Deià, Valldemossa, Banyalbufar and Estellencs.
Down the last mountain you reach Andratx.
Coll de Sa Creu
In the Palma area, this 48-kilometre route, with a maximum altitude of 483 metres, is a must.
It is a short route that takes about two and a half hours to complete, taking you through the Tramuntana mountains with constant climbs and descents. It begins in the Secar de la Real and takes you through Puigpunyent, Galilea, Es Capdellà, Calvià, until the last mountain, Coll de Sa Creu.
With a few kilometres but two important climbs, Galilea and the Coll de Sa Creu, it is a good way to get a good workout when time is short.
Sa Calobra
It is probably the most spectacular and strenuous route, which is why we only recommend it to experienced cyclists who have the will to surpass themselves.
The total positive altitude gain is 2,762 metres.
The climb up to the Coll de Sa Batalla is particularly strenuous. Then we continue on to Coll dels Reis, where the 10 km long serpentine road begins, with an average gradient of 7%, which can reach 12% in some sections.
This descent requires technical knowledge and good control of the bike so that you can ride it safely and without fear.
The reward for the most courageous cyclists is to reach Sa Calobra, a small coastal village, where you will discover the most spectacular and wild landscape of Mallorca: one of the most unknown faces on the island.
In addition to these three routes, we propose two more routes that start directly from our hotel. One leads to Esporles (https://www.cycling-friendly.com/en/routes/1192/hotel-mon-port-esporles/) and the other to Valldemossa (https://www.cycling-friendly.com/en/routes/1193/hotel-mon-port-valldemossa/).
Fun is guaranteed.
