Easter plans 2024 in Mallorca
Are you still without plans for Easter? Whether you're visiting Mallorca this 2024 during these dates or if you're already here, there are many traditions to discover and excursions to have a great time, you just must know which ones best suit your tastes.
At Mon Port, we give you some ideas to spend these holidays and enjoy them like never before.
Visit the Fira del Ram in Palma
It's one of the "obligations" imposed during Easter vacations: spend a morning or an afternoon at the Fira del Ram or Fair of Ramson, usually set up in the Son Fuster industrial estate, on the esplanade of Son Fusteret, adapted for the celebration of parties, open-air concerts, and fairs for children and the most daring adults.
This Easter 2024, there are up to 180 attractions for all ages - and all stomachs - among which stand out the immense ferris wheel, traditional bumper cars, carousels, and little cars, but also Viking boats or formidable machines that spin at a certain height and invite the daring to defy gravity.
The less adventurous can spend time having a drink in the booths or participating in raffles and draws.
Easter in Pollença
Good Friday is one of the most special days for the town of Pollença. It's the Descent, which takes place on the steps of El Calvario, formed by 365 steps flanked by cypresses and by 14 crosses three meters high. It commemorates the path Jesus took, carrying the cross, to Mount Golgotha, where he was crucified.
The event is chilling, especially if observed for the first time. The members of the brotherhoods remove from the cross a carving of Christ, of incalculable value, and carry it in procession up the steps to the church of Our Lady of the Angels, the patron saint of Pollença.
It's a ritual that unfolds in complete silence, illuminated only by the torchlight carried by the members of the different brotherhoods.
The Pancaritat of Sant Elm in Andratx
One of the traditions that marks the end of Easter vacations is the Pancaritat, a very Mallorcan celebration that takes place in all the villages of the island.
It consists of going on a pilgrimage to a parish for the celebration of a mass and, subsequently, eating in community what was left from Easter Sunday: lamb pies, robiols, and crespells.
In Andratx, the pilgrimage sets off from different points in the municipality, both inland and on the coast, until reaching the Sant Elm tower, where the Eucharist takes place.
The gathering represents a real feast for the neighbors, which begins when they join the procession and continues after the mass with folk dances and the traditional meal or snack with traditional Easter products.
The party ends with a descent to the beach where the bravest decide to try the sea water, and if the season coincides, to welcome spring.
