Excursion to Vi Rei Wineries
Mallorcan wine never fails to impress. Many sommeliers have praised these wines for their cleanliness and sincere aromas, which allow the grape varieties they come from to be easily identified. In his book "Natural History," Pliny the Elder highlighted the wines of the islands and compared them to their Roman counterparts for their quality and excellence.
Llucmajor was one of the first inhabited areas of the island and one of the first where vine cultivation began.
Vi Rei Wineries are a prime example that the winemaking tradition has never been lost and is currently one of the most important production centers in Mallorca.
The first vineyards, planted in 2012.
The first vineyards, planted in 2012, featured native varieties such as Premsal Blanc, Manto Negro, Callet, and Giró Ros, as well as some high-quality international varieties like Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malvasia, Sauvignon Blanc, or Chardonnay. About 100 hectares of land were used, which have since produced some of the best wines in Mallorca.
One of the secrets behind choosing this plantation location is its proximity to the sea. Additionally, there isn't excessive rainfall, and the sun shines most days of the year. The soil properties also combine ideal factors for vine cultivation under the best conditions.
The results are wines that reflect their Mallorcan origin, authentic and full of character.
Vi Rei follows seven unbreakable rules for crafting its wines:
- -Never over-extract during vinification.
- -Grapes are only harvested when they reach optimal ripeness.
- -Carefully selected aging barrels consider aspects such as wood grain or toasting.
- -The fermentation process is meticulously controlled to ensure harmony in aromas and flavors.
- -Never exceed the aging time in barrels.
- -During blending, the virtues of the wines must take precedence.
- -Understanding that good work always entails an open mind.
Everything You Can Do at Vi Rei Wineries
Wine tastings have evolved significantly, offering authentic enological experiences to visitors. Vi Rei Wineries offer a wide range of experiences.
One of the most original is Chocowine, a striking pairing of wine and chocolate from different origins that appeals to both chocolate and wine lovers alike.
Classic palates can opt for an Iberian tasting, where wines are sampled alongside freshly cut serrano ham and a selection of cold cuts that will satisfy even the most discerning tastes.
And of course, you can tour the vineyards on the iconic little train that departs from the winery's entrance. During the journey, the most important grape varieties, both local and international, are explained, along with the annual cycle of the vine and its cultivation. The train takes you to the production area, where you visit the fermentation room, the barrel room, and the bottling room, and the tour ends, naturally, in the tasting area.
It's a different kind of excursion, especially designed for those who are not keen on hiking or mountain climbing but still invites you to leave home and discover a different space full of possibilities.
