Mountain or Plain, Places in Mallorca for a Barbecue
Barbecues, known as "torradas" in Mallorca, are a key social event in Mallorcan life. They are celebrated during the autumn and winter, with family or friends, and are a true tradition and an opportunity to taste typical island products such as "butifarrones," “longaniza,” “sobrasada,” pork loin, and "xulla" (panceta in Spanish), along with a good red wine and quality brown bread.
Those who have space at home to celebrate these meals usually have "torradoras" (barbecue grills) and other utensils. However, the entire island is dotted with designated spots to spend a day in nature, enjoying the fire, food, and company.
Main Places in Mallorca for a Barbecue
In Mallorca, fires can only be lit for "torradas" or burning herbs and stubble during the cooler months, as defined by the Balearic Government regulations between October 16 and April 30. Lighting fires at other times of the year can be dangerous and lead to forest fires, with consequent penalties.
If you are reading this between mid-October and late April... it's time to go out for a barbecue in the countryside!
Here are the main places where you can do it:
- -In Esporlas, there is the recreational area of Son Tries, which has ten tables - one of them for people with reduced mobility - ten fire pits, a restroom, and a playground. It is easily accessible, not too large, and can be reached by car via Camí des Verger. Before or after eating, you can take a short excursion to Sa Font de Dalt. We advise not to linger too much, as this area can quickly fill up with people, and you may not find a table or space to light a fire.
- -Very close to Bunyola is the picnic area of Caubet, which is closed on weekends due to the overcrowding it has experienced lately. It is a very pleasant and safe place to go with young children, with a restroom and parking. To enjoy a peaceful barbecue, we recommend visiting this place during the week.
- -To reach Cala Murta, you must take the road that leads to the Formentor lighthouse, and in summer, it is a perfect excursion to enjoy with family and friends. In winter, the attraction lies in a recreational area with nine fire pits, six of them covered, in case of rain.
- -El Puig de Bonany is located between Petra, Villafranca de Bonany, and Sant Joan. It is a good walk of about 300 meters leading to the sanctuary at the top. On the terrace, you can have barbecues, as it has tables and all the accessories needed to light a fire and enjoy a good roast.
- -Sa Font des Noguer, in Escorca, is not only a beautiful hike, ideal for children, but also a space with up to twelve fire pits to replenish energy after a good walk.
