Guide of the Southwest zone of Majorca
When we arrive in this area of Mallorca, it cannot be compared to any other place on the island. Unlike the large tourist resorts, the typical villages located in the Serra de Tramuntana, the southwest region has an endless number of attractive places, leisure activities and excellent infrastructure which makes it such a diverse and unique place. Here we tell you everything you need to know about the southwest of the island!
Port Andratx
Considered one of the most luxurious ports in Mallorca, this small fishing village has a number of cafés and restaurants, as well as hotels to stay with your friends or family during the holidays. Built in the 20th century, it has a mixture of international residents and all those who decide to spend their holidays in this residential complex. The beautiful beaches and the mountainous landscape in the background make this place magical and totally unique.
Activities and leisure
There is no doubt that during the summer you can enjoy many water activities, boat trips and visits to unspoilt coves, but the southwest offers much more than that. You can explore art and culture, outdoor activities, shopping, events and parties to enjoy. Visit neighboring ports, such as Puerto Portals or Port Adriano, which offer endless activities for the whole family.
Local Products
Due to the good sunshine in this region of the island, the cultivation of almonds, carobs, figs and citrus is ideal. The taste and the incredible healthy advantages of almonds make the demand in markets outside the island ever greater. We recommend visiting one of the weekly markets to be able to buy artisan and typical products of the island, the perfect souvenir.
Charming beaches
It is true that the coastal area of the southwestern region offers us many beaches and coves, which attract millions of visitors each year and also count as the main attraction of the area. For that reason, we have prepared a small selection of the most popular ones:
- Sant Elm, a small fishing village where you can observe one of the most beautiful sunsets in Mallorca.
- Cala Fornells, a small cove with turquoise waters, perfect for spending the day in good company.
- Cala Llamp, a rocky cove surrounded by cliffs that will make you feel like you are swimming in a natural swimming pool at the foot of the Tramuntana mountain range.
Family Attractions
This region has numerous adventure parks and attractions for all families, specially designed for the younger members of the family but also for the older ones. These include the Katmandu Park and Western Park, both in Magaluf, the Jungle Parc, karting tracks for the older members of the family and some natural parks that will allow you to discover the flora and fauna of the island. Totally recommended!
Discovering the Serra de Tramuntana
For all those in search of tranquility and mountain scenery, this is the perfect place. The villages in the Serra de Tramuntana are a completely different world and all those who decide to get lost in the flirtatious villages fall in love with them. They are very popular with foreigners and artists, who are looking for the perfect combination between Mallorcan lifestyle and leisure and cultural activities just a few minutes' walk away. Here you can discover the most beautiful villages on the island, such as Deià, Valldemossa or S'Arracó. Perfect for a car trip!
