?The Almond Blossom Fair of Son Servera
It's an event that gathers more visitors each year in the Mallorcan municipality of Son Servera. Coinciding with the time when almond trees turn the fields into true seas of white and pink, the ancient estate of Ca s'Hereu becomes, for a day, the venue for the Almond Blossom Fair in Mallorca.
Although February is not typically associated with good weather and sunny Sundays, this year the cold seems to have avoided visiting Mallorca, making the fair one of the most crowded places on the island.
40 stalls to showcase everything related to the almond blossom.
There are more than 30 varieties of almonds covering fruits from sweet to bitter, traversing a path of organoleptic characteristics that gastronomy enthusiasts know how to appreciate.
In addition, perfumes are made with the petals of their flowers, as well as essential oils, soaps, candles, liqueurs, creams, floral craftsmanship... Who would have thought that those small white flowers, slightly brushed with pink, would yield so much?
Son Servera hosts this meeting every February, where the air fills with diverse aromas, and which even includes the sweet taste of sugared almonds, favored by the sweet-toothed.
It's important to remember that almonds are part of the islands' gastronomy, from common sweets like nougat, shortbread cookies, ice creams, and granitas, to "gató" cake, creamy almond soup, Christmas almond milk, or even chopped almonds used in many homes for stews and meats.
A complete experience
At the Almond Blossom Fair, you can enjoy a complete experience of Mallorcan folklore and tradition. The Folk Group of Sa Revetlla adds a touch of music and joy with their traditional dances, and the "xeremiers" from Puig de Sa Font roam the market with their bagpipes.
Furthermore, at Ca s'Hereu, you can visit a very interesting exhibition of agricultural machinery related to the almond fields in the area.
This year, in addition, the bars and restaurants of Son Servera have decided to actively participate in the event by incorporating almonds into their most iconic recipes.
It's worth noting that almond flour is experiencing its golden age, thanks to its nutritional characteristics, its flavor, and the quality it has in Mallorca. Many ecological establishments opt for it to offer to their customers and use it to make all kinds of cakes and cookies, and even to start making bread without traditional flours, thus exploring new experiments in the kitchen.
The Almond Blossom Fair has been held in Son Servera for more than a decade, and each year more people reserve that February weekend to come to the municipality and enjoy a different event, with a theme less known than that of other typical winter events, and with the expectation of having a good day.
