Andratx Beaches and Coves for Sand Lovers
If you think that burying your feet in the sand by the sea, building sandcastles with the little ones in the family, or improvising a comfortable beach spot with pillows and all is one of the greatest pleasures in the world, then the beaches of Andratx will enchant you.
- -One of the most comfortable, without a doubt, is Camp de Mar, a beautiful U-shaped beach with very fine sand and calm waters, where a small stream flows into the cove, dividing it in half. Unless you visit during peak times of the year, it's a very peaceful area. Those who enjoy diving can do so at Illeta, a small islet located in the center, which can be reached by swimming from the sea or via a charming wooden bridge, especially loved by children, giving the beach a special personality.
- -Cala Egos is a small beach that is difficult to access and is usually less crowded. It's easy to reach by sea, so some boats anchor here, as well as bathers on kayaks or paddleboards. The surrounding terrain is rugged, with low vegetation and little shade, so it's advisable to come equipped with sunscreen and a good sunshade.
- -Sant Elm Beach, also known as "Es Geparut," is divided into two areas, one with gravel, smaller, and another with sand. It's one of the most visited coves in the municipality, but it's not overcrowded, making it perfect for a family day out and enjoying views of Pantaleu and the stunning island of Sa Dragonera in the background. It gets its name from the oratory of Sant Elm, in honor of the patron saint of sailors, which King James II had built in the 12th century. It's a very interesting building worth visiting.
Rocky Coves, Natural Balconies to the Sea near Andratx
For many, rocky coves are better than beaches. The water is cleaner and cooler, there are more opportunities to enjoy marine life, and bothersome sand doesn't invade everything. Here are the ones we recommend in Andratx:
- -Cala Llamp is a classic. The rocky expanse forms ponds and natural pools where you can spend the whole day, and sometimes, it traps an unsuspecting little fish that doesn't take long to return to the sea. The water is crystal clear, and snorkeling here is almost obligatory. The presence of Sa Talia hill dominates the view, which also shows the port, Sa Dragonera, and the mountains of Sa Mola and Galatzó.
- -Cala Cranc is a cove of stone and rocks, very seldom frequented. It is located between Camp de Mar and Cala Blanca, with a U-shaped inlet on the coast of Andratx. The waters are clear and very blue, flanked by two cliffs.
- -Cala Conills was once an old stone quarry that over the years has given way to a small but picturesque cove, dotted with boats. It is surrounded by a sandstone cliff and is formed by pebbles and gravel among the rocks. It is a popular spot for residents and receives very few visits from foreigners.
