The best places to dive in Mallorca in 2024
Sea lovers visiting the island are in for a treat. The list of the best diving spots in Mallorca is long yet exclusive, and each of these areas offers an unforgettable experience, whether it's your first time or a repeat visit.
We'll start our unique underwater journey through the must-see marine corners for the summer of 2024.
Under the Islet of Sa Dragonera
The water quality around the islet of Sa Dragonera is excellent, and its status as a protected area since 1995 has helped preserve its marine life, making it one of the most beautiful underwater landscapes in Mallorca.
Sa Dragonera boasts many caves with air bubbles that allow exploration of areas that were likely pirate territory in the past. Today, at about 50 meters below the surface, you can see sponges, corals, and starfish. The cliffs are home to a diverse array of fauna living in a well-maintained and protected ecosystem.
For more experienced divers, a visit to the shipwreck area is recommended, located at a depth of about 34 meters and inhabited by moray eels and conger eels.
The Island of Sec
This is an astonishing place, not only due to the abundance of marine life but also because it hosts up to three shipwrecks. The wrecks are revealed as the diver descends into the depths of the islet’s waters.
You'll find the island of Sec in the west of Mallorca, and it's one of the most recommended spots for divers of all levels, with an average depth of 18 meters and a maximum of 28 meters.
The Island of El Toro
El Toro is one of Mallorca’s prime marine sanctuaries. This superb diving spot is very close to Santa Ponsa in the southwest of the island and boasts ideal diving conditions.
The biodiversity here is incredible; you can observe not only moray eels but also scorpionfish, mackerel, red dragonfish, and golden perch.
If you’re lucky, you might even spot seahorses, which are quite common in this part of the sea.
At about 40 meters deep, there is a wall full of holes, quite steep, which is often the preferred home of octopuses and conger eels.
The Cave of Sa Dama
Located between Pollensa and Alcudia, this is a spectacular site. It is a very special diving spot because here you can dive into underwater tunnels at about 20 meters deep. It also features an impressive field of rocks.
The Cave of Sa Madona
This beautiful cave is in the cliff of Cala Llamp, very close to Andratx. It is a vast cavity that opens into the rock and has a depth ranging from 8 to 25 meters. The rocky bottom houses a variety of marine life that divers love to observe.
True to its name, there is a statue of the Virgin of Sa Madona inside.
