The most beautiful running trails in Mallorca
Mallorca is a very unique place in the world to practice sports such as running, not only because of the climate, which allows us to practice it in most months of the year, but also because of the spectacular and diverse landscape that the island gives us.
In this article we will list some of the most beautiful running routes in Mallorca, specifically the Sierra de Tramuntana, an idyllic environment declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
1. Puig de Sant Miquel
The first running route we recommend is the one around Puig de Sant Miquel, a small mountain 661 metres high, very close to the municipality of Alaró.
It is a simple circular route with a duration of just over 4 hours and a total distance of 13.2 km. During the trail, you will pass by the estates of Sa Font Figuera, Oliclar and the impressive Solleric finca.
Some of the attractions of this route are the many holm oaks, where we find several very well preserved lime kilns, as well as an old bread oven. In addition, in certain spots of the route you can enjoy beautiful views of the interior of the Serra de Tramuntana.
2. Route from the Coll de sa Gramola to La Trapa
This running route runs through the southern part of the Tramuntana mountain range, specifically the GR221 section. It starts in es Coll de Sa Gramola, in Andratx, and ends in the Monasterio de la Trapa or in the Mirador de Cala Basset.
It is a simple roundtrip route of about 9.6km and takes approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. As there are practically no shaded areas, it is not recommended to do it during very hot seasons such as summer.
During the tour we find several viewpoints, such as the Cap Fabioler and Cala en Basset, which allow us to have spectacular views over the Mediterranean Sea and Sa Dragonera.
3. Route through the Finca de Galatzó, Mola de s'Esclop and Pas des Cossis
The next recommended running route is around Puig de Galatzó, located in the southern part of the Tramuntana mountain range, very close to the municipality of Es Capdellà, where the route begins.
This route has a length of 20km and a duration of just over 6 hours. In it, we will ascend through the "comellar of ses Sínies" until we reach the mola de s'Escop, where we can enjoy beautiful views of the Sierra with the Mediterranean in the background and visit the caseta de n'Argó.
Next, we must descend to sa Font des Quer in the direction of Puig de Galatzó, passing through a beautiful path in sa Coma de'n Vidal. Finally, we climb up to Pas des Cossis, where we must take a detour along a path that will take us back to the beginning of the route.
4. Pas Vermell and Torre de Cala in Basset
This is a very interesting route and is very close to the coast of Andratx, in the South Tramuntana. Although it is little known, it has several attractions that make it worthy of being on this list.
The length of this route is 12km and the duration is about 3 hours and 25 minutes. It starts in Puerto de Andratx, ascending to Coll des Vent along route GR221 and continuing in the direction of Sant Elm, passing Puig de'n Ric and, finally, Pas Vermell, so called because of the reddish colour of the rocks in this landscape.
From here, we continue the route until Sant Elm, after passing through the whole village, we will find the signs to reach the Tower of Cala in Basset, where we can enjoy one of the best views of the island of Sa Dragonera with the whole Mediterranean Sea in the background.
Undoubtedly, one of the best routes if you are on holiday in Mallorca and you are staying in the Port of Andratx.
- 5.Pas de na Lluïsa from Puigpunyent
Last but not least, this beautiful running route goes from Puigpunyent to es Pas de Na Lluïsa and returns to this same village. It is a circular trail about 11km long and takes 3 hours and 20 minutes.
Es Pas de Na Lluïsa, also known as Pas d'Encletxa is a beautiful path that connects Puigpunyent with Esporles.
This route begins in Puigpunyent, where we must ascend about 200 meters to the Coll des Grau, following the Coll Paredat and cross the beautiful estate of Son Metge. During this distance, we will find a great crack in the mountain, the known Pas de na Lluïsa, which can be crossed easily while contemplating its beauty.
Next, we will arrive at the Pla de Sobremunt, where we will begin the return journey towards Puigpunyent.
