Traveling through books
Journeying through books is one of our most favourite adventures. To immerse ourselves in the smell of its pages, to dive among its stories and characters, to nest among its lyrics and to let ourselves be carried as far as our thoughts desire.
Reading stimulates imagination and culture, curiosity and creativity, it has the power to make us fly far away.
Next April 23rd will be the World Book Day and, in spite of not being able to walk through the streets of our city armed with books and roses, at MON PORT we would like to continue to travel, even if it is through words, letters and books.
That is why we have asked the most readers of the team to recommend books that get us out of the four walls and flying far away.
Joan, our sub-director, recommends 'A Race of Madmen' by Peter Nichols.
One of those stories that motivates future generations to be sailors and to love the sea, like those of us who live on an island like Mallorca. It tells the adventure of the first sailors who sailed around the world in a mythical race. If you like the sea and you haven't read it yet, we suggest this book is for you. One of the most incredible nautical stories ever lived and written.
Victor, one of the guys at the reception desk, recommends Jules Verne's 'Around the World in 80 Days'.
The story of Phileas Fogg, a millionaire willing to risk his fortune in a bet that he promises to travel around the world in eighty days.
A book with which we will travel by train and cross the seas, we will imagine places and live adventures for 80 days.
A wonder of the great Jules Verne that will take us around the world.
Xisco, our maitre, recommends 'A Walk through Mallorca' by Gordon West.
It is exciting to read how a tourist saw our island and especially how the protagonists were looking for a sunny and unspoilt island, with ordinary and authentic people.
Maybe this is exactly what we will find when we go out and welcome our Mallorca again. This will undoubtedly be a summer to take advantage of and see Mallorca as it is described in the book.
And without wanting to, these three books may speak more about us than we think.
Perhaps the summer of 2020 will be a before and after. Maybe it will be the summer when we sail again, wander around and discover for more than 80 days that Mallorca is indeed the unspoilt island that many people want to see.
We are sure that this year 2020 we will experience the wildest, purest and most magical Mallorca ever.
We invite you to recommend us your favourite books from our Facebook profile of Mon Port Hotel & Spa We look forward to your recommendations.
